UN extends mandate of Liberia peacekeeping force

The U.N. Security Council extended the U.N. peacekeeping force in Liberia for another six months on Monday, rejecting a recommendation from U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan for a one-year extension.

A resolution adopted unanimously by the 15-nation council also asked Annan to recommend a timetable for force reductions by March. Click on link above to read full story.
