Ellen Tours Maryland, Sinoe and Grand Kru

Ellen Tours SouthEast
By J. Edwood Dennis

The southeast is apparently becoming a hot spot for political parties and presidential aspirants probably because of its vast population density or its strategic nature.

Not too long ago, two presidential aspirants – Cllr. Varney Sherman and Cllr. Charles Brumskine – paid separate visits to the region in a bid to woo supporters and establish bases there.

Hardly had the people forgotten and another political heavy weight is en route to the region to saturate the area on the party officials described as an “assessment tour” of the region.

Already, an advanced team of the Unity Party’s Standard bearer has since left Monrovia for Maryland, Grand Kru and Sinoe to prepare the way for their political messiah – Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

Madam Sirleaf reportedly left the city yesterday aboard a helicopter for her first stop in Maryland where she is expected to oversee a mini convention of the Unity Party in the county.
Madam Sirleaf’s delegation included party officials, including former Chief Justice Gloria Scott and others as well as journalists to cover the events of the assessment tour.

The visit, according to UP’s Assistant Secretary General Theodore Momo, Jr., would take 10 days.

Mr. Momo on Monday, June 13, said that the Unity Party “Iron Lady” would visit the southeastern counties of Maryland, Grand Kru and Sinoe.

Madam Sirleaf will also be assessing the conditions of Grand Kru as to what level of destruction the country suffered during the civil war, and she is also expected to meet with partisans of her Party in the County.

Madam Sirleaf’s visit will also be concentrated on facts-finding as to what developmental project could be taken to the counties to alleviate the suffering of the people.

The Assistant Secretary also told journalists that the UP Standard bearer would spend 10 days on the journey before she returns to Monrovia and gets set for the coming days of campaigning.

According to Mr. Momo, while touring the counties, Madam Sirleaf would also assess UP sub-offices to ensure that the Party’s work is done in the southeast without hindrance.
