Confirmation: Wallace: Liberia's Foreign Service in Shambles; Korto: Low Pay Drive Teachers Away

The Foreign Minister-designate told the House of Senate Foreign Relations Committee Wednesday that the country owes its Foreign Service employees over 36 months in United States dollars for salaries, rent and other benefits.

He said because of this, it’s extremely difficult for the country to recall an Ambassador from his post of assignment. “The country that they are accredited will not let them take leave. As you are aware yourself, they even blockaded an Ambassador from leaving the country because of our indebtedness to that country,” Ambassador Wallace said. He was not specific.
