TAYLOR HAS BEEN FLOWN TO SIERRA LEONE
Exile former Liberian President Charles Taylor has been flown to Sierra Leone to face the UN-backed Special Court in the country.
The handover ceremony took place at the Roberts International Airport in Harbel, Margibi County.
Our correspondent said the former rebel-leader-turned President was in handcuffs when he was handed over.
Officials of the Special Court formally read Mr. Taylor’s indictment and acquainted him with all his rights under international law.
The former Liberian President is to face a seventeen-count charge of war crime.
Mr. Taylor was arrested early Wednesday morning at Nigeria’s northeastern border with Chad.
He was indicted on June 4, 2003 in Accra, Ghana for his alleged role in the eleven-year bloody civil war in Sierra Leone.
