The United Nations Security Council has authorized that the trial of former Liberian President Charles Taylor be transferred to The Hague

The United Nations Security Council has authorized that the trial of former Liberian President Charles Taylor be transferred to The Hague.

The Security Council called the presence of Mr. Taylor in West Africa an impediment to the peace and stability of the sub-region.

In Resolution 1688 unanimously passed Friday by the Security Council, the world body described Taylor’s transfer as a matter of priority.

The resolution called for the provision of all necessary facilities for the conduct of the trial of the former Liberian President.

The Registrar of the Special Court has welcomed the Security Council’s Resolution.

Mr. Lovemore Munlo said the resolution clears the way for the trial of Charles Taylor to be held in The Hague.
