Liberia Parliament Confirms Eight of Sirleaf's Nominees

According to Mr. Brown, those who have been confirmed by the senate in a communication from that August body to the President’s office are, Joseph Kortu Minister of Education. Mr. Kortu was one of the 22 Presidential candidates that contested the October 11th, 2005 election alongside Mrs. Sirleaf.

Others confirmed in the letter, are Jackson F. Doe, a brother of slain Liberian President Samuel Doe. He is the Minister of Post and Telecommunication.

The letter according to Mr. Brown also confirmed Madam Varba Gayflor Minister of Gender. She served in the same capacity under the transitional government of Charles Gyude Bryant.
Also confirmed is Mr. Jeremiah Solunteh, a Vice Presidential candidate in the last year elections to former Presidential candidate Cllr. Winston Tubman who was once a Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in Somalia.

Mr. Solunteh is a member of the opposition National Democratic Party of Liberia (NDPL).

President Press Secretary said also confirmed are, Dr. Antoinette Sayeh a Liberian who had worked with the World Bank as Minister of Finance, George Wallace, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francis Karpeh, Deputy Minister of Finance and Fomba Sirleaf, Director of the National security Agency. Mr. Sirleaf is the foster son of the Liberian leader.

Others whose name has been forwarded to the senate for confirmation hearing, appeared before that August body but the senate is yet to officially released their names as officials that have been confirmed.
