“I Joined LURD Because My Life Was Threatened,” says Associate Justice-designate Ja’neh

The former Executive Member of defunct LURD said his decision to join the rebel movement was to create the way for peace and stability in the country that Liberians are currently enjoying.

“When all this happened and I saw that it was no other way but to participate in the armed opposition, I participated; and I believe that my participation to some extent have helped today to create the forum that is providing liberty for all of our people,” Cllr. Ja’neh said.

The former Justice Minister rejected his critics that he had not practiced law before the Supreme Court Bar for up to five years. On the issue of having been admitted to the Supreme Court Bar, Cllr. Ja’neh said he has been a member of the Supreme Court Bar for the past eight years.

Former Judge Kicks Against Cllr. Lewis’ Nomination

He has written the National Legislature objecting to the nomination of Cllr. Lewis to serve as Chief Justice of Liberia for what he termed “Impunity and Corruption.”

“I have the singular honor most respectfully to draw your Excellency’s attention to adverse issues relative to the nomination of Johnnie N. Lewis as Chief Justice of Liberia.

“I do realize that it is not normal to object to presidential nomination, but the case in point may be an exceptional one,” he noted in the letter of petition to the legislature, dated February 17, 2006.

National Security, Rural Development Ministries To Be Dissolved

Speaking on the first edition of a radio talk show Conversation with the President yesterday, Johnson-Sirleaf said the ministries of rural development would be merged with that of internal affairs, public works and agriculture ministries, while the national security ministry would be incorporated into the national security agency, national bureau of investigation and the national police.
